It has become part of the daily life of Americans to watch news on television. Come February 17, 2009, America will transition itself from the TV analog version to digital TV version. But with a looming economy people just cannot afford to buy new digital television sets much less a TV converter box.
You will need a converter box if you watch TV over the air, using an antenna or “rabbit ears.” A digital TV converter box is a device, about the size of a cable box or smaller, that is hooked up to a conventional analog TV set, allowing it to receive digital broadcasts.
News came out recently that the government’s billion-dollar TV converter program to help people prepare for the transition to digital television has run out of funds, potentially leaving millions of viewers without coupons to buy converter boxes they need to keep their analog TV sets working after the switch.
Sending a message to television viewers is vital to the economy as it affects all industries. However, people are placed in a hard position as they need to spend to be able to transition their television sets to digital ones.
If you have an analog TV and do not have the extra cash to purchase a converter box you may be able to get a coupon but be prepared to wait as consumers who request a $40 coupon to help offset the cost of a converter box are being placed on a waiting list. Visit dtv2009.gov to apply for a coupon or to learn about the digital TV transition. Or watch a digital TV converter demonstration.
If it seems impossible for you to transition at this stage then watch the news using the internet if you have one at home. Most broadcasting TV channels are now online, which is a good option. Or you can watch news on iPod or your mobile phone.
