Text messages are supposed to be fun but not for Lindsay Rae whose relationship with boyfriend had been compromised by the fake text messages her boyfriend received allegedly coming from her cellphone. There are many incidents like this that had happened but remain unreported.

So, how are these fake messages sent?

Anonymous text message providers have mushroomed making it is easy for anyone who has a computer and internet connection to send a fake text message to anybody who has your contact number. People who have evil intentions can easily access the service online.

CBS News also published an article reported by CISCO of a rise on text message scam. Cyber scammers are trying to target people who cannot fall into an email phishing scam but still fall prey to mobile phone scam.

Can it be stopped?

The best way to stop it is to delist your phone numbers in yellow pages and by not giving your contact number to anyone. Be selective on the people you give your number to otherwise you open yourself to scammers.
