After launching its Gmail texting in October, which was later pulled out shortly after its SMS capabilities were rolled out, now Google is adding the text messaging function back to Gmail through its Gmail Labs arm. This is good news to Gmail users. Now texting is back if you have a Gmail account.

It’s easy to use the text messaging functionality. All you need to do is just add the text messaging functionality to your Gmail account by clicking on the Google Labs icon. Click on the”Labs” tab, scroll down to the text messaging functionality and enable it. The functionality should appear on the side of the window screen, near the contacts.

This Gmail SMS messages are currently available to U.S. based mobile phone numbers and that users should check with their respective carriers about the costs that may be incurred in sending or receiving text messages.

Interested users who are concerned about privacy issues should brush up Gmail Privacy Policy first before joining the service.
