The people behind Google has come up with yet another great idea to generate more customers. Imagine making free calls within the United States and Canada? Who would not love that idea? With most individuals trying to squeeze their budget, this offer is hard to pass by.

Placing a free call anywhere in the US and Canada through Google is fast and easy, but first you must have a Gmail account. If you don’t then you must set up one before you can use this free service. Once set up, all you need to do is log in to your Gmail account and from the left side of your mail page you can click on Call Phone. A page will pop up which will ask you to accept and install a program. Since you are new to the system, you must do this before you can go further.

Calls are free within the United States and Canada until 2010 and after that who knows. Google may start charging you but for now it is best to take advantage of the free service. International calls however are billed, but at a very low rate. Google provided a separate page where you can view their international calling rates. For example, Google’s voice call per minute to Argentina is just $0.02. This is a huge saving to folks who have families and relatives in Argentina.

You can place calls to landline and mobile phones from within your Gmail account. All you have to do is just dial a phone number you want to call and you will be connected. It’s that simple.

If you want to take advantage of this opportunity then you must follow certain requirements. You must install voice and video chat which requires Windows XP+/ Mac OS X 10.4 + /Linux. You can check out Google’s sample per minute rates or Google’s complete list of calling rates to give you an idea of how you can save more bucks by taking advantage this system.

Can’t figure out Google’s free call service? Bored offers free calls online too. Check it out!

With money so tight in everyone’s budget, anything that is free is a welcome. The high cost of living expenses at the present time is already too much in everyone’s pocket and if you add up a text messaging plan to your monthly budget that will add up to the list.

With most phone service providers charging $5, $10, $15, and even $20 for a text messaging plan, there is now a growing popularity of free-SMS apps. One such great example is Textfree Unlimited. It usually costs $5.99, but that is pretty cheap considering the money you can save in the long run. Now they are offering it for free though you have to put up with a few ads.

If you want to save your hard-earned money each month, then you should grab Textfree Unlimited while it is free.

Unsolicited text messages can be very annoying. You don’t want them yet they keep popping up on you iPhone screen. The unsolicited text messages are there to make money out of you.

Have you experienced the same? For every unsolicited text message you receive is the corresponding bill of $0.20. This can be very frustrating especially to individuals who do not even add a text message plan on their phones.

If you are smart enough, there are ways to block these unwanted text messages.

Here are some of the ways to block text messages and even calls:

1. Call your service provider and have these incoming text messages blocked on your phone;

2. If your service provider is of no help to you, try breaking your phone by installing an app called iBlacklist. iBlacklist is a call blocker and sms selector only available for the iPhone. With the service, you will be able to select from who you want to receive calls and hide messages. iBlacklist has a free version but if you want to get the full version be willing to pay $12.00 via paypal.

3. If you want something free then try Spirit, an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. It is not a carrier unlock. Be sure to read the instructions provide before doing anything on your phone.

Any comments or tips to block unsolicited text messages from our readers are highly appreciated.

Have you been using your cellphone 24/7?

A troubling new studies on radiation levels make sense to limit exposure to cellphones, especially for children. This troubling new studies caught the attention of many who are not aware of the impact cellphone use could have on them, especially on children.

The alarming news is said to be based on scientific data that link radiation from cellphones to cancers of the brain, neck, and head. Though the data are inconsistent or that the case for cellphones causing cancer is far from conclusive, according to the report, it is still best to limit cellphone use rather than regret later.

The report further states that exposure to radiation also depends on the number of calls you make and for how long you talk as well as the phone’s model, size and antenna type. Be that as it may, it is best to be a smart cellphone user.

According to the Center for Disease Control, cellphones emit low-frequency electromagnetic radiation, which is said to be not strong enough to change the structure of atoms, but possibly strong enough to heat tissue. The amount of radiation that is emitted by a phone and then absorbed by nearby human tissue, e.g., your face, ear and skull, is called the SAR otherwise known as specific absorption rate. For two people using the same phone, this number can be different because it depends on a user’s body weight. Children are said to typically absorb more than adults.

Here are tips for smart cellphone users:

Use cellphone only for short conversations and when a landline is unavailable.

Switch to a hands-free device or the speaker feature.

Speak less, text more.

As much as possible, limit the time your child spends talking on a cellphone.

Purchase models with low SAR ratings. Manufacturers provide SAR numbers.

The Data Protection Act 1988, a UK Act of Parliament, defines UK law on the processing of data on identifiable living persons. It is a piece of legislation that governs the protection of personal data in the United Kingdom. The Act does not mention privacy, but it does, however provides a way in which individuals can control information about themselves. Most of the act does not apply to domestic use like keeping a personal address book, but anyone holding personal data for other purposes is legally obliged to comply with the provisions of the Act.

The Act gives you rights over your personal information, with respect to how it’s used and your access to it. It stipulates that you have the right to know what information is held about you, the right to correct or remove it and the right to object to its use for marketing purposes.

The Data Protection Act creates the following rights for those who have their data stored, and responsibilities for those who store, process or collect personal data.

The person who has their data processed has the right to:

Request that incorrect information be corrected.
