Have you been using your cellphone 24/7?

A troubling new studies on radiation levels make sense to limit exposure to cellphones, especially for children. This troubling new studies caught the attention of many who are not aware of the impact cellphone use could have on them, especially on children.

The alarming news is said to be based on scientific data that link radiation from cellphones to cancers of the brain, neck, and head. Though the data are inconsistent or that the case for cellphones causing cancer is far from conclusive, according to the report, it is still best to limit cellphone use rather than regret later.

The report further states that exposure to radiation also depends on the number of calls you make and for how long you talk as well as the phone’s model, size and antenna type. Be that as it may, it is best to be a smart cellphone user.

According to the Center for Disease Control, cellphones emit low-frequency electromagnetic radiation, which is said to be not strong enough to change the structure of atoms, but possibly strong enough to heat tissue. The amount of radiation that is emitted by a phone and then absorbed by nearby human tissue, e.g., your face, ear and skull, is called the SAR otherwise known as specific absorption rate. For two people using the same phone, this number can be different because it depends on a user’s body weight. Children are said to typically absorb more than adults.

Here are tips for smart cellphone users:

  1. Use cellphone only for short conversations and when a landline is unavailable.
  2. Switch to a hands-free device or the speaker feature.
  3. Speak less, text more.
  4. As much as possible, limit the time your child spends talking on a cellphone.
  5. Purchase models with low SAR ratings. Manufacturers provide SAR numbers.
